Meet the Birmingham Workshop Team
Our workshop services have undergone significant growth and development in recent months, thanks to the dedication of our team and strategic investments in technology. Under the guidance of Group Workshop Manager, Anthony Cole, we've expanded our service offerings to meet the evolving needs of our customers, including a thriving partnership with Travis Perkins.
A cornerstone of this success is our Birmingham workshop team. This dynamic group of skilled technicians, including Neal, Ash, and Charlie, brings a wealth of expertise to every challenge. From the intricacies of two-stroke engines to the complexities of diesel powered construction equipment, our team is equipped to handle it all.
By combining their skills and expertise, the team has been instrumental in reducing repair times, increasing productivity, and enhancing customer satisfaction. Their dedication to delivering exceptional service is evident in the positive feedback we've received from our customers.
We sat down with Charlie, the youngest member of our Birmingham workshop team, to learn more about his role and aspirations. With a passion for problem-solving and a knack for machinery, Charlie has quickly become an integral part of our team.

What is your current role at Seddon Plant & Engineers Ltd?
I’m a Workshop Technician here at Seddon Plant & Engineers. My day-to-day involves getting stuck into a variety of equipment, from the smaller garden machinery to the bigger light construction kit. It’s a hands-on role where I get to use and develop my skills to keep our customers’ machines up and running.

What made you want to work within this industry and within your current role?
I’ve always been a bit of a tinkerer, and I love the challenge of figuring out what’s wrong with something and fixing it. This job lets me combine my passion for mechanics alongside helping to solve problems for people. There’s a real satisfaction in seeing a machine go from “it won’t start” to being back in action.
-
What do you love about what you do?
Every day is different. One minute I could be working on a lawnmower, the next we could have a delivery of 50 compaction plates that need servicing. I enjoy the variety and the problem-solving aspect. Plus, there’s a great team here, and we all pitch in to ensure customer satisfaction and get the job done.
-
What does success look like to you?
To me, success is about happy customers and overcoming challenges. When you fix someone’s machine and they can get back to work or enjoying their garden, that’s a great feeling. I also like to think I’m learning something new every day, so improving my skills is important too.

Where would you like your career path to look like or take you going forward?
I'm really keen to become an expert in the workshop. I love sharing what I know, so helping the team and the business grow is something I'm really passionate about. In the future I'd love to pass on my skills and help others on the same path as me to develop too. Ultimately, it'd be amazing to use everything I've learned to run my own workshop.

Do you have any advice for anyone looking to follow in the same footsteps as you?
If you love getting your hands dirty and enjoy a challenge, this could be the career path for you. Be prepared to learn all the time, and don’t be afraid to ask questions. A good attitude, hard work and a willingness to help others goes a long way in this industry.
