Meet The Team : Darren Crompton Bolton Branch Manager
Seddon Plant & Engineers Ltd are proud to have numerous employees who have been with the company for an extended period. Many have experienced different facets of the business and possess a wealth of knowledge regarding our operations.
One of our key staff members, who has risen through the ranks to become the manager of our head office in Bolton, is Darren Crompton . Darren is well-known to many of our customers, as he initially joined us 12 years ago in credit control and has continued to progress since then.
We had the opportunity to catch up with Darren and ask him a few questions about himself and his experience working for Seddon Plant & Engineers Ltd.
- Why Did You Join Seddon Plant & Engineers Ltd?
I also knew I wanted to be part of something bigger than myself, to contribute to a legacy that spanned generations. Seddon Plant & Engineers struck me as a company that valued its people and offered opportunities for growth. I was eager to develop my skill set in a supportive environment, and that's exactly what I found here.

Tell Us About Your Career Path Until Now ..
My journey to Seddon's wasn't quite linear. I started at United Utilities in Field Collections and Investigation, which was a valuable experience, but ultimately it wasn't the right fit for me.
Looking for a new challenge, I took a leap into credit control for a property surveying company. It was a great way to learn the business side of things, but after a couple of years, I knew I craved a more dynamic role.
That's when I saw the opening at Seddon Plant & Engineers Ltd. The chance to work with such a well-respected company and the potential to transition into the sales side of the equipment industry was incredibly appealing. I started in credit control, and my drive to learn and contribute kept pushing me forward to experience new challenges. This is where I decided to move in to the sales side of the business.
I thrived in the stores sales office and quickly worked my way up to Assistant Manager. When the Branch Manager position opened, I was determined to take on the challenge. Thankfully, they saw the potential in me, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to lead such a fantastic team.

What Do You Love Most About What You Do?
Becoming Branch Manager has been incredibly rewarding in a few ways. First, it's allowed me to directly support our amazing sales team. Seeing them succeed and feeling like I've played a part in that is hugely motivating.
It's also given me the chance to connect with customers on a deeper level. Every interaction is an opportunity to learn about their needs and challenges at a higher level, which helps me ensure we're providing the best possible service. I love that I can get stuck in and tackle issues head-on alongside the team. It fosters a real sense of camaraderie and helps everyone feel valued.
Plus, the new strategic challenges are exciting. The industry shift away from petrol-powered equipment is a big change, but it's also a chance for us to innovate and adapt. Being involved in navigating this transition allows me to keep driving the company forward, whilst also learning and growing, which is something I truly value.

What Does Success Look Like In Your Role To You?
For me, success at Seddon's is all about building strong relationships. When our customers feel valued and understood, they're more likely to have a positive experience. That's why I prioritise creating a happy and engaged team environment.
Happy staff translate into happy customers. When everyone feels supported and empowered to do their best work, it shows in the level of service we provide. It's a win-win situation for everyone involved.

Tell Us A Surprising Fact About Yourself …
Most people wouldn't guess that I'm actually a award-winning sports volunteer! Back in 2018, I won the Volunteer in Sport of the Year Award at the Bolton Active Sports Awards. I used to coach football at BLGC three nights a week and on weekends. It was incredibly rewarding to see the kids develop their skills and passion for the game.
I also took the lead on promoting and recruiting for the team, including setting up the framework for Girls football development from scratch. This was recognised by the LFA as we set out to promote inclusivity through schools and other clubs to get more girls in to football.
Last, but by no means least I was heavily involved in leading change for giving people with disabilities the chance to play football. All of which helped ensure a strong program for years to come.
